Are you setting up arrangements to get a new septic system installed? This can be quite a task, so it’s important to effectively prepare to ensure that the process goes smoothly and you end up with the perfect new septic system.
At Quality Septic Inc., we’ve been installing septic systems in the Land O’ Lakes area for more than 20 years. Here we’d like to share some tips on how you can prepare for your installation.
Dispose of old septic system
The first step in preparation is disposing of your current septic system. Unless you’re familiar with this work and have the necessary tools and equipment, you should arrange with the company that’s installing your new system to remove the old one.
If your septic installer can’t or won’t do the removal job, it shouldn’t be hard to find one that can.
Prepare for a temporary water shut-off
Before installation commences, your water will have to be temporarily shut off. That means during this time, you won’t be able to shower, flush toilets or bring water through your faucets.
Plan ahead for this shut-down, particularly where drinking water and toilet use is concerned. Your installer will give you a ballpark figure on how long the water will be off.
Get a soil test
Soil testing is important in a septic installation to determine if your soil can properly support a septic tank and drain field. Most septic installers can see that the test gets done prior to beginning work.
Should the test come back and indicate that there are issues with any aspect of the soil, your septic contractor can make whatever adjustments are necessary.
Clear the area
Prior to installation, your septic provider will give you an idea of how much space in your yard will be needed for the installation of the new tank and drain field. You can then clear the area.
This means leaving the crew with nothing but land to work with. Remove all vehicles, chairs/tables, toys, grills, and the like. Making the area easy to access and work in will result in a smoother, quicker installation.
Ask questions
Finally, before the day of your installation, remember to ask any questions you may have. The septic system installation process isn’t all that complicated – for experienced professionals – but you’ll want to feel that you have a good idea of what all is going to happen before it happens.
At Quality Septic, we expect our customers to ask questions, and we’re always happy to provide accurate answers. Like you, we want the entire installation process to go smoothly and quickly, and we want you to be informed about every step.
